Incorporated in 1883, this city was originally called Pouppeville. Rayne was named after a railroad engineer. Today, Rayne is known as “The Frog Capital of the World” and “The Louisiana City of Murals”. Rayne's notoriety in frogs began when Frenchman Jacques Weill, a resident of the community, began raising and exporting frogs to restaurants around the country.
