Crowley / Grand Opera House Zydeco Cajun Prairie Scenic Byway
(circa 1901) – 505 North Parkerson Avenue
Built in 1901 by David E. Lyons. The opera house played host to such luminaries as Al Jolson, Jack Dempsey, Irene Dunn, and the infamous governor of Louisiana, Huey P. Long. The building is constructed of cypress, oak, and pine. The exterior was completed with brick and is adorned with many large arched windows. The opera house seated around 1,500 people, all of whom had a perfect view of the 80-foot wide by 50-foot deep stage. The Grand remained opened until the late 1930's when Mr. Lyons died. Now the Dixie True Value Hardware, but the old opera house is currently being restored.
